Made to order in our Toronto workroom · 1/4″ stitching precision · 20 years of craft

Custom café curtains, sewn to your window in our Toronto workroom — one panel at a time. One hundred percent cotton ticking stripe, pinch pleated on a four inch buckram band, finished to a quarter of an inch.

  • Made to order in Toronto. Cut, pleated and hemmed by hand in our own workroom — never sourced, never drop-shipped.
  • Smith by Alendel. 100% cotton, 54 inches wide — a soft matte stripe that holds a pleat and filters kitchen light without going flat.
  • Eight colourways. Poppy, Apple, Chartreuse, Droplet, Clay, Stream, Pewter and Indigo.
  • Three pleat headings. Double, French or inverted box — choose yours on this page. Same hand-sewing, same price.
  • Properly built. 1:2 fullness, weighted bottom corners, a 2.5–3 inch hem and blind-stitched sides.
  • Lined or unlined. Add polycotton privacy lining, or leave it open to the light. Ships in 10 days or less, shipping included.

HOW SIZING WORKS

Pick your width and length range above, then type your exact width × length — to the quarter inch — into the two size boxes on this page. Measure the rod span you want covered: the width you give me is the finished pleated width of the panel, and I sew to it. Width ranges are the finished pleated width: 0-12" · 13-23" · 24-26" · 27-37" · 38-42" · 43-52" · 53-65" · 66-76". Lengths: 0-24" · 25-36" · 37-48". Nothing on your window standard? Write to me before you order and I will quote the exact size.

CHOOSING YOUR COLOUR

Choose your colourway at the top of this page — it travels with the order, so I always know what to cut. Custom curtains are not returnable, so order swatches first and see the cotton in your own light. If anything is wrong on my side, I remake it.

CHOOSING YOUR PLEAT

Three headings, one price. Double — two folds to a pleat; this is the heading in our photos, crisp and quiet, and the most forgiving on a short café panel. French — three folds, fuller and a little more formal. Inverted box — the folds turn to the back for a flat, tailored face. Pick yours at the top of this page; all three are hand-sewn on a four inch buckram band.

THE RODS THAT COMPLETE THE LOOK

Rod not included. Pair the panel with our 16mm café curtain rod for a classic ringed look, the oval spring tension rod if you cannot drill, or the 7/16" slim sash rod for a rod pocket. Not sure how it goes up? Watch our install tutorial.

FAQ — SIZING, PLEATS, CARE

What size should I order?
Pick the width range that contains your finished pleated width, then type the exact width and length into the size boxes above. Measure the rod span you want the panel to cover — the number you give me is the finished pleated width. Every panel is sewn to within a quarter of an inch of it.

Is this one panel or a pair?
One panel. Café windows are usually dressed with a single panel, so that is what the price covers. If you want a pair, order two and tell me in the notes whether they should be identical or mirrored. Two panels on one rod read fuller and part in the middle.

Which pleat style should I choose?
Whichever you like — the price is the same for all three. Double is two folds to a pleat and is what you see in our photos; it is crisp, quiet and the most forgiving on a short café panel. French is three folds, fuller and more formal. Inverted box turns the folds to the back for a flat, tailored face. Choose it on this page and it travels with your order.

Do I need the lining?
Lining is optional. Polycotton privacy lining adds body, blocks sightlines after dark and protects the cotton from sun fade — worth it on a street-facing window. Unlined reads lighter and lets the stripe glow. Both are sewn the same way; only the price differs.

How do I clean them?
Dry clean only. Spot clean with a damp cloth and steam on low from the back to release fold lines. Please do not machine wash — cotton at this weight shrinks and the pleats will not come back. Treated gently, these panels last for years.

I check every order myself before it ships. — Natalya
