A relaxed Roman shade with flat folds, cut and sewn to your exact window in our Toronto workroom — within 1/4 inch, in opaque Far faux linen, ten colours. Nothing is trimmed down from a stock size, and nothing is folded over to fake a fit.

This is the relaxed build done properly. There are no rods and no rod pockets in the face fabric, so the front of the shade stays clean — no horizontal stitch lines running across your window. The rods sit in the lining at the back, and small hand stitches hold face and lining together. That is what lets the folds rise level and crisp while the bottom hem keeps its soft curve.

The fabric is 120 inches wide, so at every size we offer your shade is a single seamless panel. No vertical seam down the middle of a wide window.

We are Aspect Creative Agency in Toronto, and we have been making window textiles since 2001. My team and I cut and sew every shade in our own workroom — there is no factory in the middle of this, and no markup for the word custom.

THE FABRIC

Far, from Alendel's Panorama Book. 100% polyester, woven in India, 120 inches wide. It is an opaque fabric with a faux-linen weave and a soft matte surface — it reads as linen across a room and behaves like polyester in a window, which is the point. It does not crease the way real linen does, and it does not go limp over a kitchen sink.

Those middle three matter more than they sound. 130,000 double rubs is a contract-grade result, and NFPA 701 is what a condo board, a hotel or a commercial fit-out will ask you for in writing. If you are specifying for a project rather than a single room, this is a fabric you can put on a schedule.

CONTROL — CORDLESS, CHAIN OR MOTORIZED

Cordless. No cord and no chain anywhere on the shade. You lift it and lower it by hand and it stays where you put it — the obvious choice if there are children or pets in the room. Cordless is available up to 62 inches wide at lengths to 62 inches, and up to 52 inches wide at lengths of 63 to 72 inches. Past that the mechanism cannot carry the weight of the shade reliably, so those combinations are shown as unavailable and we fit a chain instead.

Chain. A continuous-loop chain, smooth and precise, available at every size including the largest. The chain is tensioned to the wall with a bracket, so no loose loop hangs free.

Motorized. We fit and test the motor here before the shade ships. Message us before you order and we will confirm which motor suits your size and how it is powered.

LINING — LIGHT FILTERING OR BLACKOUT

Light filtering is included in the price. A polycotton lining behind the face fabric: daylight comes through soft and warm, and you have privacy day and night with no silhouette.

Blackout is a separate back layer, priced as a small upcharge in the menu. It takes the room dark for a nursery, a bedroom or a media room. One honest note: a blackout shade mounted inside a window recess will still leak a little light around the edges. That is true of every Roman shade, ours included. Mounting outside the recess, with the shade overlapping the frame, is what kills the edge light.

HOW TO MEASURE

Pick the width range and the height range your window falls into, then tell us the exact numbers in the order notes. Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch. Give us the window opening and we take the mounting deductions for you — do not subtract anything yourself.

Inside mount (the shade sits inside the recess): measure the opening width at the top, the middle and the bottom, and give us the narrowest of the three. Measure the height at the left, the centre and the right, and give us the longest.

Outside mount (the shade sits on the wall or frame): tell us the finished size you want the shade to be. We usually suggest 2 to 3 inches of overlap on each side and above the opening.

If you are between two ranges, or unsure which mount you want, message us before you order. Measuring is the one step where a second opinion is worth more than a return policy, and this shade is made once, for your window.

SEE THE FABRIC FIRST

Colour on a screen is a guess. Polar, Ivory and Cloud look nearly identical on a monitor and not at all alike on a wall at four in the afternoon. Order the samples and look at them in your own window, in your own light, before you commit to a custom shade.

We do not charge for the fabric samples themselves — you only cover the shipping, and that cost is credited back to you when you order.

MADE TO ORDER

Nothing here sits on a shelf. Your shade is cut after you order, to the numbers you gave us. Most orders ship in 10 days or less, direct from our Toronto workroom.

Custom items are not returnable — so we make it right: order fabric samples first, and we remake anything that is wrong on our side, at our cost.

CARE

Dust regularly and spot-clean gently. For a deeper clean, dry cleaning is highly recommended: the shade is lined, and lining and face fabric shrink at different rates in water. It also carries a weighted hem and lift hardware, which is not something to put through a wash.

SHIPPING, DUTIES AND CUSTOMS

Free shipping across Canada and the United States. Ships from our Toronto workroom with UPS, with tracking and signature required.

Under the CUSMA / USMCA free trade agreement, tariffs do not apply to this order. UPS may still charge a small brokerage and document-processing fee at the border — usually around $10 USD. That fee is charged by the carrier for the customs crossing, not by us, and it is the only additional cost you may see.
